There is a lot of confusion out there centering on the concept of the low carbohydrate diet. One reason there is a lot of confusion centers on the fact that most diets over the past several decades involved low fat/high carb plans. So, which plan is the best one? Well, both of them will have value in terms of their ability to shed excess weight. Why is this? It is because both a low in calories. As long as you create a calorie deficit, you will drop weight.



However, there are also other issues related to good carbohydrates and bad carbohydrates. These issues are well worth exploring. Net Carbs - The purpose of carbohydrates is to provide energy to the body. That is why so many competitive athletes eat a high carbohydrate diet. They need the glycogen that the carbs produce in the body for fuel. Fat can also be used for fuel but it is not efficient for those in need of an endurance based workout. However, when you cut your carbs and go along your regular schedule, your body will burn fat for fuel which adds to the low carb diet’s ability to shed weight.

However, it is important to point out a calorie deficit is needed no matter what type of diet you are on. To lose one pound of stored body fat, you either have to reduce 3600 stored calories through diet or exercise. It is as simple as that- protein, strength gain, conditioning, power, recuperation, stamina, energy No Carb Diet Plan - Now, when you do eat carbs as part of a weight loss diet, you want to stick with the good carbs. These are natural carbohydrates found in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. When these carbs are ingested, they break down in the body slowly. That means you will not get hungry soon after eating them. Also, the calorie content in natural carbohydrate sources is rather low. An apple, for example, might only contain 90 calories. That certainly is not a high number compared to other food sources. This brings us to our next point…

No Carb Diets - The bad carbohydrates are those processed foods and refined sugars that proliferate on the junk food shelves at local stores. Cakes, sodas, pizzas, and other bread based or sugary items are loaded with bad carbohydrates that are extremely high in calories and break down in the body almost immediately.

(A simple chocolate donut can have upwards of 250 calories)  This means you might get quite hungry shortly after eating these items which further promotes excessive weight gain. As such, it is best to avoid eating bad carbohydrates even in small numbers. They just are not good for you at all and they promote excessive fat storage. Stick with the good carbs and eat a sensible amount of them. This will deliver the weight loss goals you seek.
